Friends, family, and colleagues have chosen to honor her extraordinary contributions to Montgomery County public education by establishing an endowed fund in her memory. The fund will provide grants in her name as part of the annual Foundation Small Grants program.
Montgomery County Board of Education member, Patricia B. O'Neill, who died Tuesday, September 14, 2021, served on the Board for more than twenty years sharing her wisdom, passion, and commitment as she helped to shape educational outcomes for the county's children and youth.
A graduate of Walter Johnson High School, Mrs. O’Neill was the Board of Education ex-officio representative who served as Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Public Schools Educational Foundation (Foundation). As vice chair, she was an engaged member of the Foundation Grants Committee, giving insight to her fellow committee members as they considered requests for funding from MCPS educators and staff.
Each year, the Foundation opens an online portal to receive grant requests from MCPS educators and staff. The funds are awarded to enhance the educational experiences of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students through enhanced instruction, career-readiness opportunities, or school support. The Foundation grants up to $1000 for a project with a single project leader, or grants up to $5000 for collaborative projects led by multiple educators.
