Who We Are
The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Educational Foundation, Inc. (the Foundation) funds special and innovative MCPS programs that regular funds cannot support. It is the official charity for MCPS, which serves 156,000 students in more than 200 school facilities.
Funds are directed toward efforts to provide equitable learning opportunities for MCPS students; community engagement activities in support of student success; and MCPS strategic initiatives. A Board of Directors that includes a representative of the Board of Education, the MCPS Superintendent of Schools, the Foundation Executive Director, business persons and philanthropists leads the organization. Three part-time staff persons are employed.
What We Do
The foundation awards Scholarships to graduating seniors and administers two grants programs. The Small Grants Program invites proposals for grants up to $1000 to provide materials and teaching aids to strengthen instruction. To provide more access to technology, the foundation funds grants in support of Extended Technology Hours. These grants underwrite costs associated with staffing for after-school use of computer laboratories. Technology grant awards are for up to $3000.
The Foundation also serves as fiscal agent for contributions and grants in support of the MCPS mission, and special initiatives such as the GIVE BACKpacks and the Toolkits campaigns.
How Your Donation Will Be Used
Your gift to the MCPS Cares Campaign will be directed toward student-centered needs. You can designate your gift for the following funds: GIVE BACKpacks (purchases school supplies), Grants to Schools (funds academic enrichment), Scholarships (provides student awards), Toolkits (underwrites early childhood education materials and books), or tell us to use your contribution Where it is Most Needed (unrestricted designation in support of special initiatives and increased operating capacity). Whatever you choose, the contribution you make will provide much needed support for the MCPS children who require assistance.
