Jorge Restrepo -CroppedCraig Rice was first elected to the Montgomery County Council in November 2010, becoming the youngest African American to ever serve on the nine-member Council. Three years later, his colleagues elected him to a one-year term as president of the Council. Craig represents District 2 the sprawling Up-County region of Montgomery County’s most geographically diverse district, as well as its fastest growing. Craig chairs the Council’s Education Committee and serves on its Health and Human Services Committee. In addition, he serves as the Council’s representative to the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) in Annapolis and chairs MACo's Education Sub-Committee. He is also Chair of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Chesapeake Bay and Water Resources Policy Committee.

No stranger to elected office, Craig was elected to the House of Delegates in 2006 and served on the Ways and Means Committee until his term ended in 2010.  This Montgomery County Native is a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School and the University of Maryland, is married and the father of three.
